What/Why/How

History

I have been sleeping on buckwheat shells since 1997. This ancestral way of making organic pillows has changed my life to a point where I now share my expertise with everyone I meet. First, bear in mind that a healthy sleep requires having a straight spine. "Our mothers always told us to sit or stand up straight and chiropractors want us to sleep with a straight backbone".

I was born in Vietnam in the 1950s, where food was conserved using salt. Needless to say, my bone quality was poor, and I started having neck pain and headaches as of age 17. This was followed by allergies due to bad blood circulation at night, undermining my immune system. Finally in my forties, I had poor physical condition by day and horrible quality of sleep at night. Does this sound familiar? Since my diet was healthy, I was always moving and most of my symptoms appeared in the morning, I did some research to find a solution to my problems. Here is my conclusion.

Based on an article stating that a typical adult places at least 30 kg of pressure on a pillow during deep sleep, I had an idea of what may be causing my troubles. Imagine a bag of potatoes weighing 30 lying on your pillow for years! For me, this situation is comparable to the effects that poor nutrition or a bad posture during a long day of work can have on one's health. As a matter of fact, 65% of snoring occurs due to bad posture!

I am therefore aware of the problems that have emerged year after year, due to the lack of neck support from conventional pillows. It comes as no surprise that with blocked nerves and blood circulation during a third of our lives, mixed with poor bone quality in my case, all kinds of secondary effects can appear with age. Since finding adjustable sleeping tools is almost impossible, we can say that purchasing conventional pillows can directly increase the amount of synthetic or chemical materials we inhale.

Whether it's for being more respectful towards the environment, to go back to the basics or for therapeutical reasons, you can obtain the best sleeping tool out there. Here, you are in the best place to understand the marvelous ancestral tradition of vegetable-based pillows made of recycled buckwheat shells.

Share this website with a friend who has been disappointed by their sleeping patterns, and they will truly enjoy their experience with an adjustable buckwheat pillow, as it is undoubtedly the best kind of pillow you can find. The Japanese experience has shown this for centuries.

Why make pillows out of buckwheat shells?

Buckwheat shells are a rare material that doesn't cave in, while molding to the natural form of your body.

Well adjusted, this sleeping tool eliminates cervical block, which causes tensions, headaches, migraines and other problems. With that in mind, an optimal blood flow to the brain can be beneficial on the short and long term for people of all ages. It can help repair the body in the same way that a healthy diet can help you get in better shape.

Buckwheat shells do not trap heat in, as there is constant air circulation between them. This vegetable based pillow stays fresh at all times, contributing to a stable and relaxing sleep. Thanks to its exceptional properties and its freshness, this material is naturally hypoallergenic, since dust mites prefer hot and humid environments.

Finally, buckwheat seeds have never undergone any artificial processing. They are a natural product that absorbs and stores solar energy and transmits it to you during sleep. This is why they are considered one of the best natural fertilizers to feed the earth. Our pillow made of buckwheat shells is 100% environmentally-friendly.

Why purchase a MORPHÉE pillow?

Because it is the best buckwheat shell based pillow available on the market.

MORPHÉE contains premium quality buckwheat shells that were naturally treated and specially made to be used as pillow filling. These shells were never condensed since the pillows are never hermetically sealed in plastic bags, making sure they breathe at all times. Therefore, there aren't any odours, alterations or any other unpleasant surprises.

MORPHÉE is sold with a little more buckwheat shells than necessary (extra firm texture). This is why MORPHÉE is one of the rare pillows available on the market that can be adjusted to everyone's needs and preferences, in the same way that clothes can be tailored or glasses adjusted to the right prescription. It will help you sleep according to your definition of comfort, making sure you are always well rested and with a straight backbone.

MORPHÉE is made with 100% cotton (denim) which is solid and so tightly knit that very little light penetrates through the material. It keeps the shells well wrapped for years, without needing to sift them.

MORPHÉE is sewn with a five-thread overlocker, making two parallel seams. We add a third simple seam to tighten and consolidate the pillow cover's four corners. If the cover opens, MORPHÉE will replace the pillow.

MORPHÉE has a zipper to adjust the pillow and to clean the cover when necessary. This zipper is smaller and more robust than most manufactured zippers. Additionally, it is double stitched and consolidated at each extremity. The zipper's pull tab goes under the tissue so that all shells remain inside the pillow and for added safety.

* approximate calculation for the delivery of a standard pillow : For measurements of the parcel, taking those in the table and add 20cm to the height . Earn 15 cm for each extra pillow ( Ex 3 pillows for → 2 = 30cm x 15cm + 20cm = 50cm thick. ) ; For package weight , calculate about 4 kg including packaging and multiply by the number of pillow purchase. For other quantities , add 1 kg for large , 800 g or less cumulative for each lower magnitude. (Eg for a small , 4kg - . 1.6 kg ( 2x800g ) = 2.4 kg). Here, all the calculations for delivery are indicative and are the maximum you will pay. The final price , probably lower , will be adjusted when ordering . No billing will do without the client's consent.

** Different sizes and models can be purchased upon availability at the moment the order is completed.

Adjustment

Since you are used to sleeping on a synthetic or animal-based pillow, you will need a little time to adjust to this new way of sleeping. Also, after each adjustment, try the pillow out for one or two weeks to make sure the adjustment is convenient; if not try again.

Your body talks to you, try to listen to it and don't hesitate to adjust your aim based on your physical evolution. If you don't like your pillow anymore, it's not because the product has changed so much, it's most probably because your body has changed. In this case, please review the suggested maintenance for your pillow and try different configurations.

MORPHÉE provides a healthy sleep with a straight backbone. The secret to a perfect adjustment can be be explained this way; as you empty your pillow, you will increase the range of positions you can take at night to reach your goal of having a healthy sleep. Because this material never caves in, you will benefit from having an ideal posture for your whole night's sleep, while never accumulating excess heat.

The adjustments below should be used as a guideline only, given that everybody's needs are entirely personal. The three types of adjustments one can have are: firm, soft and malleable. As soon as you feel a sensation of stiffness, your body will indicate that the pillow is too full based on your physique and sleeping habits.

For therapeutic needs:

- Removing around 8 to 10 cups of shells will allow you to improve your sleep on your back and sides;

- If you sleep on your stomach, empty the pillow until the palm of your hand, in a rigid position, goes through the pillow and touches the table (or other hard surface). This adjustment will let you change positions through the night, with 360° degree flexibility. Moreover, if you sleep on your stomach, it is highly recommended to sleep with a pillow along your body to straighten your backbone, reducing back and neck pain.

PFor normal needs:

Extra firm texture: Use the pillow as is or remove up to 6 cups or less of shells.

Medium texture : Remove 6 to 10 cups of shells.

Soft texture : Remove 10 or more cups.

For children under 4 ft. (1.2 m) tall : Remove at least 10 cups of shells for an improved sleep.

Maintenance

The excess buckwheat shells should be stocked in a paper bag so they could breathe at all times and to avoid condensation. The buckwheat seeds should be reused as required before cleaning the pillow.

Expose your pillow to the sun for a few hours once in awhile, they will react in the same way you would after spending a whole winter indoors. Each time you will do it, the shells will come back to life and will store solar energy, which will be transferred to you as you sleep. They will also increase in volume and elasticity.

To maintain the MORPHÉE cover, decant all the shells in a container before washing it. However, MORPHÉE strongly suggests you invest in a well-padded quilt pillow protector that will absorb your body oil. This quilt will fulfill three important roles: facilitate your pillow's maintenance (every 5-10 years), improve comfort and to help maintain the shells within the cover if the pillow is very soft.

To maintain the shells, while the cover is being washed, sift them on top of a newspaper surface with a large strainer. Everything that filters through can be returned to nature as a plant fertilizer. To give more volume to your shells, moisturize them with water while drying them thoroughly before using them again.
